S&P 500 Index opens lower after long weekend, stays above 4,500
- Wall Street's main indexes opened modestly lower on Tuesday.
- S&P 500 Real Estate Index is down more than 1%.
Following the three-day weekend, major equity indexes in the US opened modestly lower on Tuesday amid a lack of significant fundamental drivers. As of writing, the S&P 500 Index was down 0.25% on the day at 4,524, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was losing 0.5% at 35,195 and the Nasdaq Composite was little changed at 15,380.
Among the 11 major S&P 500 sectors, the Real Estate Index is losing more than 1% on the day, possibly pressured by the rising US Treasury bond yields. On the other hand, the Consumer Discretionary Index is up 0.35% as the biggest gainer after the opening bell.
In the early trade, Tesla Inc is the top-performing S&P-listed stock, rising nearly 3%. On the flip side, Deere & Co is down 3.35%.
There won't be any macroeconomic data releases from the US in the remainder of the day.
