China: US tariffs calling - TDS

The US announcement of the list of Chinese imports by the US Trade Representative's office is due this week, at least by Friday based on the US tariff proclamation signed on March 22, points out the research team at TDS.

“The US wants to curtail China's hi tech ambitions in the "Made in China 2025" policy and the tariffs are likely to be aimed technology imports according to the "Section 301" investigation. China's 2025 plan is focused on 10 industries - advanced information technology, robotics, aircraft, shipbuilding and marine engineering, advanced rail equipment, new energy vehicles, electrical generation equipment, agricultural machinery, pharmaceuticals and advanced materials. These are likely to be hit hardest. Total US tariffs could be between $50-60bn.”
